Deasy announces over $986,000 in state funding for Green Tree Borough and Scott Township projects
PITTSBURGH, Oct. 22 – State Rep. Dan Deasy, D-Allegheny, announced the allocation of more than $986,000 in grants for significant infrastructure and recreational improvements in Green Tree Borough and Scott Township.
These funds, awarded through the Statewide Local Share Account program, will support the following projects:
$500,000 to rebuild the public swimming pool in Green Tree Borough. The modernization project includes a new pool, filtration pump, aquatic activity spaces and amenities.
$91,250 to rehabilitate the sidewalks along Bower Hill Road in Scott Township to create a safe roadway that connects residents to local businesses and jobs. The project involves replacing 3,500 square feet of concrete sidewalk, adding 780 feet of curb, installing a new concrete cheek wall to prevent debris, creating an ADA ramp, and adding a stormwater inlet.
$395,006 to repair a streambank and restore roadway along Duncan Way in Scott Township that has deteriorated due to acid mine drainage entering Whisky Run. The project involves removing the damaged gabion baskets, building a retaining wall to stabilize the streambank, and repairing the road.
“These grants are an investment in the future of our communities,” said Deasy. “From modernizing Green Tree’s public swimming pool to improving sidewalks and addressing environmental concerns in Scott Township, this funding will directly benefit residents by enhancing safety, recreation and infrastructure.”
Funding from the LSA program is administered through the Commonwealth Financing Authority, which is an independent agency of the Department of Community and Economic Development that administers Pennsylvania’s economic stimulus packages.

Scott Park Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
Yesterday, residents, commissioners and staff met at the new Scott Park pickleball courts for a ribbon cutting ceremony. Many residents turned out and all seemed extremely happy with the new courts. There was a short speech by Township Manager Denise Fitzgerald, cutting of the ribbon, and a raffle drawing awarding one lucky attendee a pickleball paddle set.
“Ladies and Gentlemen,
Good evening. On behalf of the Board of Commissioners and Scott Township as a whole, I would like to welcome you to the grand opening of our brand-new pickleball court! Today marks a significant milestone for our community as we inaugurate a space dedicated to fun, fitness, and fellowship.
Pickleball is more than just a sport; it’s a way to bring people together, encouraging both young and old to engage in healthy activity and spirited competition. It is a game that fosters camaraderie, challenges our skills, and brings joy to all who participate.
This court represents months of planning, hard work, and dedication. It’s a testament to what we can achieve when we come together with a common goal. I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who made this project possible:
– To our community leaders and officials who supported this initiative from the very beginning.
– And to all the volunteers and enthusiasts who have shown unwavering enthusiasm and support.
Our new pickleball court is not just a place for sport; it’s a place where friendships will be forged, where families will bond, and where memories will be made. It is a space that will serve as a vibrant hub of activity for many years to come.
I encourage everyone to take advantage of this wonderful new facility. Whether you are a seasoned player or a complete beginner, there is a place for you here.
As we cut the ribbon today, we celebrate more than just the opening of a court. We celebrate community, health, and the spirit of coming together. So, grab your paddles, rally your friends, and let’s make this pickleball court a cornerstone of our community life.
Thank you all for being here to share in this special moment.
Now, without further ado, I would like to ask the commissioners and the residents here today to gather in front of the new courts so we can cut the ribbon and declare our new pickleball court officially open!
Thank you!
Enjoy the day, everyone!” – Manager Denise Fitzgerald

Change in Scott Park Fire Pit Rental Policy
Due to an increased demand for the Scott Park Fire Pit, when renting facilities at the park, you will now have to reserve the fire pit ($5) as a separate rental. We originally included it as an option for facilities but increased demand meant double bookings were more and more common. Please just note this simple change in process. Thank you!
